Academic team awarded 3rd place at competition
Over the weekend, the RHS Academic Team competed at Orchard Farms High School. The team eagerly entered this competition knowing that they would be competing against over 20 prestigious St. Louis schools. The team took 3rd place overall, with Senior Tim Vanhoose as Top Scorer with an average of 135 points per game.
While highlighting our academic team’s recent success, we would also like to recognize the steps the students take to ensure their top 10 status. Senior and fellow member of the RHS Academic Team, Julia Giesey, was eager to let her peers know what our academic team competitions are all about.
“It really helps us when we listen to each other and decide which answer is best to go with, all within five seconds. Another thing we do, however, is recognize what kind of subject the question is, and then not buzz in if it’s another team member’s area of expertise,” Giesey said.
Giesey also spoke about past successes and how gaining for recognition could further motivate the team to place even higher in their competitions.
“I would love it, honestly, if Academic Team got more recognition. We’re constantly getting in the top 10 at all of the competitions we go to, and we even to go to State last year and rank 5th place. We put effort into what we are doing and sometimes it can get frustrating when we don’t get acknowledged for it,” Giesey said.
