Students compete in the 2015 Constitution Project

The Constitution Project team traveled to Houston, Texas County, Missouri for its final leg of the competition on Wednesday.

The legal team from social studies teacher Tim Webster’s Crime and Justice class took the case against Enna Faug, the suspected intoxicated driver who was arrested at the scene by Keith Peterson’s Biomed class a week earlier.

Witnesses were called, testimony was heard, evidence was weighed, and objections were made. After jury deliberation, Mr. Faug was declared ‘Not Guilty’ in the vehicular manslaughter of Ima Goner.

The RHS CSI news team, under the direction of journalism teacher Mary Gillis, reported the case which can be followed on Twitter @rhscsinewsteam or at the following website: https://sites.google.com/a/rolla.k12.mo.us/rhs-csi-news/_.

Earlier:

The first leg of the competition was yesterday, when students from the Biomed class and students from the Journalism staff went to the Missouri Highway Patrol office in Rolla to investigate a mock car accident scene.

Rolla was competing with Houston, St. James, and Dixon in this initial round.

Students from the Biomed class were called out to investigate the scene of the mock accident wherein the driver was confirmed dead. The team, coached by Biomed teacher Dr. Keith Peterson, was to work together as Crime Scene Investigators to collect evidence and secure the scene.

The journalism team, coached by Journalism teacher Mary Gillis, arrived 30 minutes into the CSI investigation and reported live from the scene via Twitter and a mock Broadcast. The team interviewed the lead CSI, Sean Young and then held a press conference after the initial investigation was complete.

The final leg of this competition comes when the Trial Advocacy team, coach by Government teacher Tim Webster, will take the evidence gathered and take it through the court system.

After the competition is complete, schools will be notified of their place in the competition. The first place team will advance to the State Competition in November.
