The RHS Art Club is visiting the City Museum [http://explorestlouis.com/visit-explore/see-do/see-do-member/?mid=29&gclid=COvJnuevvLoCFaZcMgodzgoAfg] and the Laumeier Sculpture Park [http://laumeiersculpturepark.org/index.php] in Saint Louis this Thursday. Shannon Englebrecht, sponsor of Art Club, hopes the club will take time to “explore how art interacts with the viewer and its surroundings.”
What is the Laumeier?
Laumeier Sculpture Park has been a nonprofit home for the interactive art pieces on its 105 acre campus since its establishment in 1968. It brings a source of culture to 300,000 visitors a year.
Some of the exhibits at the Laumeier include:
Tony Tasset – Eye, 2007
Niki de Saint Phalle – Ricardo Cat, 2007
How do you say Laumeier?
The correct pronunciation is “Lau” (rhymes with “now”) – “meier” (rhymes with “higher”). Henry Laumeier, the benefactor of the museum and the surrounding park, was a German immigrant, so the pronunciation is German.
