Sweetheart is on Feb. 16 from 8 to 11:30 p.m, and will be located in the upper and lower commons. The theme is based on Finding Nemo and the candidates are sophomores Ashwini Krishnamurthy and Natalie Craun, juniors Adrian Espy and Danielle Stagner, and seniors Zoey Craun and Kiersten Sandquist.
The planning started in the summer. Now closer to the dance, decorations are in full swing with everyone working hard to get everything done before the big night.
“We’ve been planning since July. The decorations consist of a lot of fish. Decorations take place twice a week and every Saturday. There are a lot of big 3D projects that we are still working on,” Anderson said.
Decorations start multiple days in advance and continue until the day of the dance.
“We have to start by cutting out of all of the paper and taping all of the walls together. Then we trace pictures from the movie on to it, and now we’re like painting the pictures. The hardest part of decorations is a lot of times not many people can come so we can only get some things done. Overall, we want it to be like you’re under the sea with Nemo,” junior Key Club member Becca Hanlin said.
Putting everything together is hard, but in the end the final product is worth all of the hard work.
“The hardest thing is planning because we have big, grand ideas, and just making them come to life is difficult. Getting to see everybody having fun at the dance is my favorite part; just seeing everybody come and have fun is worth it,” Anderson said.
