Jacee Wood, a sophomore, was recently elected to the position of ‘Student Advisor’ on the Rolla Board of Education, where she will serve for one year. Her job is to tell the administration the thoughts of the student body.
“I report to the board on any specific issue that they ask and I pretty much let them know how the school is doing and our student opinion,” Wood said.
Wood would like to see the school offer more choices and become more in touch with the students.
“Availability for our students with different opportunities needs to happen,” Wood said.
Wood attends approximately two meetings a month.
“I attend all of the open session meetings but not the closed session, which is like 30 minutes before the normal board meeting and then I’m attending an extra meeting this month for the wellness committee,” Wood said.
Wood’s position gives Rolla High School students a voice to influence the decisions that will affect them.
“So they take what I say, or they’re going to, into consideration but you have to look at it from their point of view. They’re trying to better us; some decisions we can’t make maturely.” Wood said.
