What’s New? Volleyball.

It’s not often that a high school sports team lead by seniors. This year’s Rolla High School volleyball team is lead by a slew of seniors who playing volleyball at a high school caliber level for a number of years now. Macy Moreland and Madalyn Franks are two of the many seniors to lead the bulldog attack. Being a senior, Moreland feels like they have certain duties they need to perform on and off the court.

“I feel like as a senior we have a certain responsibility to show up and work hard every day. Even in practice we try to make our practices competitive and we try to get better everyday, that way when it’s game day we are already prepared for the game like atmosphere and the pressure that comes with the game,” Moreland said.

Franks has the same outlook as Moreland does but talked about how she connects with the Lady Bulldogs.

“Volleyball has a had a huge impact on my life; really giving me another family and giving me a platform to really give it my all and not hold anything back,” Franks said.

Being a new face in an old crowd isn’t always an easy adjustment as Franks had to mold in with the team that has played together for years.

“There was a little bit of an adjustment period switching from a Yellowjacket to a Bulldog. It was hard to root for a team that you’ve grown up rooting against your whole life” Franks said.

The bulldogs this season have a talented team mixed in senior experience and Sophomore Bayli Graydon thinks this team has the magi to make it to a district title and possibly a state title.

“The expectations we have on this year for ourselves are high. We plan on winning districts and making a strong push for the state title” Graydon said.

The difference between the team last year and the team this year isn’t very much except for underclassmen moving up and Graydon thinks that’s the key to their success.

“I think the difference from this years team and last years team is just how close we are together and we spend a lot of time together and seeing how dedicated our seniors are playing for clubs and stuff like that, Graydon said.”
