Boys basketball hits a high score

The Rolla High School Varsity Basketball Team is on a roll this year, and they only seem to be getting better. With meeting old school records to hitting fourteen three pointers in a single game and tying a record set by last year’s team, the varsity team is having an incredible start to the season.

“We have a quality basketball team this year that shoots the ball well and plays a very up-tempo game. That combination is what allowed us to score 106 points Friday night against Union and tie the RHS single game scoring record held by Coach Campbell’s team from 1991. We didn’t like the fact that we gave up 86 points, but I’m glad for the guys that they’ve added another record to their resume,” head basketball coach Mark Miller said.

The expectations are surely high for this team as they have already started 9-0 and tied the 1980’s team for the best start to a season. The team has high hopes for this season as they look forward to greater success as the season progresses.

“It was such an exciting moment. Not many teams can say that they have scored 100 points. I personally didn’t think we’d get it, but the tempo never slowed down like I thought it would eventually. It was a rush, just seeing the crowds reaction had me pumped. Even though I felt like we didn’t have our greatest game defensively, scoring 100 points is a great feeling,” team member Landon Maynard said.
