Bulldog Boys Basketball falls to Parkview on Senior Night
Every athlete’s bittersweet moment comes on two occasions; their last game and their senior night. Last night at the Rolla High School boys basketball game, three seniors went through their own bittersweet moment after three years of waiting for their own turn.
Aaron Froehlich, Tyler Kean and Damaris Facen were recognized at their senior night at the game Tuesday against Parkview. All three have played two years of varsity basketball, but Froehlich and Kean have been playing basketball on the same team since the SIR days dating all the way back to fifth grade. These seniors have grown together though and improved over the years playing RHS basketball. Not only that, but these boys have made so many memories together.
Both Froehlich and Kean said, “Winning the St. James Tournament.” as their favorite moment over the years while Facen replied, “ The freestyle rap sessions before the games.” was his favorite memory.
It’s never easy as an athlete to go through your senior night, but it is inevitable. Not only is it inevitable, but it is always hard on both players and coaches.
Coach Mark Miller of the RHS boys team knows this first hand, going through this night every year. Coach Miller is just an awesome person as well as a coach and it seems as if every senior he sees off is just a special kid to him personally.
When asked what it has been like coaching these seniors Coach Miller replied not only as a coach, but also as a friend.
“It’s been a lot of fun. I mean three really good guys; You got Pookie (Damaris Facen’s) who’s just a blast to be around all the time. TK (Tyler Kean), he knows the game really well and he said he wants to be a coach later on and he can do that and then Froe is just a high quality guy who gives you everything he’s got. They’re just a great bunch of guys.” said Coach Miller.
Although the boys lost to Parkview iit was still a special night in that gym for friends, family, players and coaches alike. These seniors, Aaron Froehlich, Tyler Kean and Damaris Facen, as well as the cheerleading seniors Colin Jones and Paige Wuest, will be truly missed by all.
The Bulldogs are now 13-7 on the year and are set to face Camdenton on the road this Friday. Coming after that is just three more games and then districts begin. Good luck Rolla Bulldogs!
