Track season is upon us! Unlike most other sports, track offers a wide variety of people the opportunity to be in athletics.
“My track season is going great! Meets are sometimes challenging, but in the end, it’s worth it when you win,” junior Anastasia Underwood said.
The Rolla High School track team has had an eventful season thus far.
“The girls’ team has done really well. We won the Owensville meet, and that is usually one of the hardest ones,” senior Caryn Ranney said.
The team’s success is attributed to the hard work put into during week day practices.
“We warm up as a team, then we split into groups, and then we do our own warm ups again. We either practice hand offs or we work out,” Ranney said
After a basic warm up, the team splits into different groups corresponding to their different events.
“At a typical pole vaulting practice, we pole vault, run sprints and practice strengthening actives like pull ups, pull overs, and what we call ‘inverts,’” Underwood said.
There is a noticeable change in the overall team this year, compared to that of last year.
“Last year, there were less pole vaulters. And the competition has definitely heightened for me,” Underwood said.
The track team has high aspirations for the remainder of the season.
“The girls’ team has placed or done very well at every meet so far, and we hope to continue to better ourselves as we get closer to qualifying meets,” Underwood said.
