During sixth hour on April 8, RHS students and faculty gathered on the football field with eclipse glasses in hand. The jumbotron displayed solar eclipse memes and played celestial-themed music as participants gazed at the sky.
According to Eclipse2024.org, occupants of Rolla experienced a deep partial eclipse with roughly 98 percent of the sun covered by the moon. Southern Missouri cities like Cape Girardeau and Poplar Bluff were in the path of totality, where the moon lined up perfectly between the Earth and the sun, which resulted in total darkness.
The next total solar eclipse will be visible from the lower United States on Aug. 23, 2044.
