For their 2023 spring musical, the Rolla High School Drama program will be performing the musical Footloose. Hosted in the Rolla Middle School auditorium, this show will be about two hours long.
“Our performances are March third and fourth at seven o’clock and March fifth at two o’clock,” said RHS Theater instructor and director Kelli McNeven.
Senior Jay Cooper will play Ariel Moore, the rebellious daughter of the town reverend, as well as a dancer in the opening number. As a lead in the show, Cooper will be performing several difficult songs.
“It’s pretty vocally challenging. I know Hayden Renaud and Allison Krueger and myself all have very difficult songs to sing. Zach Phelps as well. So we are definitely going to be put on vocal rest,” stated Cooper.
Playing lead character Ren McCormack, junior Hayden Renaud is looking forward to the show despite its challenging nature. Its upbeat tone and deep meaning make it an easy sell.
“It’s a very light show that most anyone could watch, although I would not encourage bringing younger kids… it talks a lot about censorship, and the importance of everyone being able to express themselves and do what they want to do,” said Renaud.
Tickets to attend the show are being sold online, and will be sold at the door only if there are any tickets remaining.
“If we continue selling at that pace, it’s currently going out. We may not have very many [tickets] available at the door to be sold, so I would recommend people buy in advance,” suggested McNeven. “Tickets are $7 for students and senior citizens and $10 for adults.”
Cast members look forward to the play with excitement and encourage students and teachers to attend.
“People should definitely come see the show. I’m so incredibly excited. And since this is my last show at Rolla High School I’m going to try to make it my best one so far. I think this is the most fun show that I’ve been in at this high school… I’m very excited,” said Cooper.
