Hands on lesson in Biology II gives students experience of dissecting a squid
This past Monday, Rolla High School students in the Biology II class dissected the first, in what hopefully will be many, specimens. Junior Sam Wilsdorf shared his experience in the class.
“It was really fun being able to dissect something that you’ve never really touched before. I got to take out the spine and open the ink sac, dip the spine into it, and use the ink to spell my name out on paper. That was really cool. We were learning the basic anatomy of the creature,” Wilsdorf said.
The aim of dissections is to give students a better understanding of nature.
“[We did this to develop] a better understanding of how things work and how our body is different to many other different types of animals,” Wilsdorf said.
