Students taught to ‘wash their hands and stay clean’ to avoid the spread of infection
Starting off this 2015-16 school year, Rolla Public Schools has already been hit hard with infection. We have had some identified cases of staph infection at the High school, and an eleven year old student at the Middle School who was diagnosed with Meningitis. Last weekend, some high school students went up to St. Louis to visit the student at the hospital.
“She’s was struggling for a while, but she is slowly getting better. They have moved her to a normal room which is good and she is breathing on her own again. She has woken up and said some stuff,” Elizabeth O’neal said.
With the cases of staph infection, coaches and students are doing as much as they can to try and get rid of the spreading of this infection.
“The janitorial staff left us with a bunch of wipes so we completely wiped down everything that we touched in the weight room before and after. We did the benches, the weights and the dumbbells and all that kinds of stuff. Also if a kid had a scratch or something we made sure they had a bandaid on them and just talked to them about washing their hands and staying clean. So as far as I know, no one has gotten anything staph-wise out of my class, so I think that we’re keeping it in pretty good check,” Coach Trish Knight said.
