Sociology II students take field trip to restrooms
This morning, Sam Kaysinger’s Sociology II students took a field trip to three of Rolla High School’s restrooms. This may sound strange, but, according to Sociology teacher Kaysinger, it has an important learning purpose.
“My goal for our sociology II students is to see sociology all around them, even in the most unlikely places. So we are beginning our semester with a little bit of shock value, so we took a field trip to our restrooms throughout the school and made observations. Tomorrow we will discuss all of those observations and how they fit sociology,” Kaysinger said.
According to Kaysinger, the students were a predictably a little hesitant.
“[The students reacted] pretty predictable, which is was to be expected. [There was] a little reluctance to go in, especially near those performance regions, (if you will),” Kaysinger said.
The trip served its purpose, according to Kaysinger, because the students started to see some things that she was hoping they would see.
“[There was] some amusement, you know, crazy Miss Kay, what is she doing? I think by the end of the tour students started to question and see things and wonder why it is that way ,which is really what I want for them. I want them to start questioning and asking what is the function of that,” Kaysinger said.
