Veteran’s Day Assembly at RHS honors those who served our country
On November 11, the school hosted the annual Veteran’s Day assembly. All of the students and faculty were in attendance, as well as many visiting veterans. Two veterans shared their experiences with the student body. The first, Todd Snider, was a retired marine. Snider’s message was about serving and why he did it.
“It felt like, if not me then who? If not now, when?” Snider said.
Snider’s words went beyond serving in the military; he also inspired students to do the right thing and improve society as a whole.
“Sometimes, you’ve got to do things just because it’s the right thing to do. No one is going to thank you for it. Nobody may ever see you do it. It just has to be done. Think about the person to your right and left. If everybody thought about someone else then we would be a lot better off,” Snider said.
The second speaker was Everett McDaniel, a retired army officer. McDaniel has two children that both passed through the halls of the school. He also worked logistics in Japan after the natural disasters in 2011.
“You don’t have to wait for a special day on the calendar to show your respect, to honor, and to express gratitude to a person in uniform. Donate your time now,” McDaniel said.
