Rolla election results
On Tuesday, April 8, citizens of Rolla voted on the city-wide election. The election was for school board, mayor, municipal judge, city attorney, several city council seats, and the infamous Prop A.
This election was one of twenty precincts in the county. Phelps County officially collected 4,683 ballots of the 28,049 citizens registered to vote, leaving a voter turnout of only 16.7%.
With 1,083 votes, Lou Magdits was elected as mayor of Rolla, beating Sue Eudaly’s 985 votes, and Steven Leonard’s 493 votes.
Tony Froehlich, Jane Haskell, and Keith Strassner all held their positions on the Rolla School Board with 2,194 votes, 2,513 votes, and 2,095 votes respectively, beating the only newcomer, Rodney Southard, who had 1,676 votes.
In Rolla Ward 1, which holds its elections at the Rolla Second Baptist Church, Jonathan Hines and Monty Jordan were elected to City Council seats, defeating Stephen Peterson and Michael Doan. In Ward 2 (The Center), Matthew Miller was elected as an unopposed candidate. Kelly Long was also elected as an unopposed candidate from Ward 3 (RTC). From Ward 4 (Redeemer Lutheran Church), Don Morris was also elected as an unopposed candidate. In Ward 5 (Eugene Northern Community Building), Jimmy Dale Williams was elected as an unopposed candidate. In Ward 6 (MS&T General Services Building), Walter L. Bowe III was elected as an unopposed candidate. Also in Ward 6, Anthony “Tony” Bahr defeated Mark Walburg 66 votes to 42.
Brendon J. Fox was elected as Rolla’s City Attorney. Fox ran unopposed.
James T. Crump was elected as the Rolla Municipal Judge. Crump also ran unopposed.
Last but not least, the infamous Proposition A failed to pass, receiving 1,356 votes in the no column (51.95%) and 1,254 votes in the yes column (48.05%). This means that sales tax in Rolla will not increase .0025%, as the proposition proposed.
