The long awaited turf, initially aimed at the 2012 year, has been set into action to be completed by the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year. The turf project will include converting the field into synthetic turf and adding on to the bleacher area. The turf will benefit multiple organizations. By changing to turf, the band will be able to practice there, cheerleaders will have more room to perform and it will benefit sports like football and soccer.
Though the turf project was to be completed in 2012, it was pushed back due to higher construction priorities, but is now all set to be finished by July.
After alternate ideas and bids were compared, it was finalized that there will be a maroon “R” in the center of the field; the end zone will be colored maroon with end zone lettering, an addition of two bleacher sections, and a protective soccer net on the 10th Street side. Also, the irrigation on the practice field will be reconnected.
The community has been a huge factor in helping this project. Many donations have been made to the project as well as the advertisement banners hung on the fences. All of these have helped with the costs of the turf project; however, donations are still being taken.
The band instructors are already planning on having a Route 66 Marching Band festival this coming October due to the new turf.
Also, the cafeteria has been approved for an addition. The new addition will be added to the parking lot side of the cafeteria extending out into the lot. This will allow for an enlarged seating area. The scramble area is also being enlarged to allow for another server area and a full salad bar to the side wall. The cafeteria expansion is to be finished this summer for the 2013-2014 school year.
