It’s the age of a new era as we are finally going wireless.
“This year we are running a pilot project consisting of the five new classrooms: Hammond, Warnke, Day, Rose, and Lueck. They are sharing a class set of Ipads and netbooks to incorporate into their lesson plans,” Instructional Technology Facilitator Brenda Spurgeon said.
Teachers have been preparing for these advancements by attending multiple technological training workshops.
“These teachers have already attended twelve hours of technical training. The goal of the pilot project is to determine what kind of technology best fits student’s needs,” Spurgeon said.
Even with all the technological advancements, the Wi- Fi is still in the trial stage.
“The limited bandwidth is a disadvantage of the Wi-Fi. Even though there is Wi-Fi we still have to use it conservatively. We have to control the amount of active devices on Wi-Fi so the speed of the educational devices is not affected,” Spurgeon said.
The Wi-Fi bandwidth will be expanding throughout this school year.
“So far Wi-Fi this year will be used in a restricted manner but we are preparing for future use when students will have access in all classrooms,” Spurgeon said.
