Previous plays, such as ‘Faith County’, put on by the RHS drama department have been comedic, serious, or just plain silly. This year’s spring play is expected to be much different.
“It [the play] is kind of different from other shows that have been done here before. It’s not a comedy; not that it’s depressing. The focus is on the suspense,” drama teacher Wendy King said.
Several past productions at RHS, such as the fall play ‘Faith County’, have been comedic. This is not the case with the upcoming spring play.
“It’s called ‘The Uninvited’ written by Tim Kelly. It is a ghost story. There are two siblings who decide that they want to move out in the country and they find this house and decide it’s a great buy and that they’re going to buy it. Then they find out its haunted. They’re a little unsure, but they get the house anyways. Then they figure out it really is haunted, so they’re trying to figure out who the ghost is – if the ghost is good or bad. Some crazy bizarre things happen; people get possessed. It’s a very suspenseful show,” King said.
Having a good set is a key component in a praiseworthy performance.
“Hopefully, if everything goes well, the set is going to be very, very large. A lot of the students in the show are very much looking forward to interacting with the very large, intense set,” King said.
Besides needing a large set for the production of the show, the play also requires special effects.
“There will be special effects with a ghost, and hopefully if it works with some special fiberglass we’ll get an optical illusion of a ghost without actually seeing the ghost,” King said.
‘The Uninvited opens Mar. 17 and will be available for your viewing pleasure on the 17, 18 and 19 at 7 pm each night in the Middle School auditorium. Tickets will be 5 dollars.
